Noel Harry Leaver Paintings

Noel Harry Leaver was an English artist known primarily for his watercolour landscapes. He was born on December 23, 1889, in Austwick, Yorkshire, England. Leaver studied at the Burnley School of Art and later at the Royal College of Art in London, where he was a student under the tutelage of William Rothenstein.

Leaver's artistic career began to flourish after he won a scholarship to study in Italy. This experience had a significant influence on his work, as he became known for his architectural scenes and landscapes featuring Italian and later Middle Eastern subjects. His paintings often portrayed the warmth of the Mediterranean sunlight and depicted historical buildings with a keen sense of detail and atmosphere.

During World War I, Leaver served in the British Army, and this experience also impacted his work. After the war, he returned to painting and teaching, becoming a respected watercolourist. He taught at the Halifax School of Art and later at the Royal Technical College in Huddersfield, influencing a generation of artists.

Leaver's work was exhibited at various institutions including the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society. His paintings are characterized by their meticulous detail, vibrant colours, and the ability to capture light, which earned him a considerable following during his lifetime. Noel Harry Leaver continued to paint and exhibit his work until his death on July 24, 1951.
