Jan Baptist II Kobell was a Dutch artist born on August 13, 1778, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He was part of a family of artists; his father, Hendrik Kobell, was a marine painter, and his brother, Ferdinand Kobell, was also an accomplished artist. Jan Baptist II was primarily known for his landscapes and animal paintings, which were highly regarded for their fine detail and the serene atmosphere he managed to convey.

His work often depicted pastoral scenes with cattle and sheep, reflecting the Dutch countryside's tranquility. Kobell's technique and style were influenced by 17th-century Dutch masters, and he managed to continue this tradition while incorporating his own unique elements.
