Franklin De Haven was an American painter, known for his impressionistic landscapes that captured the natural beauty of the American countryside. Born on December 26, 1856, in Bluffton, Indiana, De Haven began his artistic journey at a young age, showing an early talent for drawing and painting. He moved to New York City to further his art education, where he studied under George Henry Smillie, a prominent landscape painter of the time.

De Haven quickly established himself as a skilled artist, adopting the tonalist and impressionist styles that were popular among American landscape painters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work is characterized by a nuanced use of light and color, often depicting tranquil scenes of rural life, forests, and waterways.

Throughout his career, De Haven became an active member of the art community. He was a member of the National Academy of Design and also associated with the American Watercolor Society. His paintings were exhibited at various prominent venues, including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the National Academy of Design.
