Alberto Pasini was an Italian painter, known for his landscape and orientalist works. Born in Busseto, Italy on September 3, 1826, Pasini demonstrated a keen interest in art from an early age. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Parma under the tutelage of landscape painter Giovanni Battista Borghesi, and later moved to Paris to continue his studies.

In Paris, Pasini was influenced by the works of Théodore Chassériau, and he became deeply interested in orientalism - a trend among European artists that was characterized by the depiction of Eastern cultures, especially those of the Middle East and North Africa. Pasini traveled extensively in these regions, visiting places such as Persia (modern-day Iran), Turkey, and Egypt. His travels provided him with a wealth of inspiration for his paintings, which captured the architecture, landscapes, and daily life of these exotic locales with vivid detail and atmospheric effects.

Pasini's work was well-received in his time, and he exhibited at the Paris Salon and the Italian Expositions. He was also commissioned by prominent patrons, including the French government, which adds to his reputation as a significant figure in the orientalist movement. His artistry was recognized with several honors, including the appointment as an officer of the Legion of Honor in France.

After his travels, Pasini continued to paint scenes inspired by his journeys. He was adept at rendering the interplay of light and shadow, and his works often featured bustling scenes of markets, caravans, and street life, showcasing his ability to depict movement and activity with a sense of immediacy.

Pasini passed away in Cavoretto (now part of Turin), Italy, on December 14, 1899.
