His full name was Adrien Étienne Moreau, and he was known for his detailed and vibrant compositions, often depicting scenes from history, literature, and daily life in a romanticized fashion.

Moreau was a pupil of Isidore Pils and Henri Lehmann at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He honed his craft under their tutelage, developing a style that was both academic and influenced by the popular trends of the time, including Romanticism and, later, a touch of Impressionism.

He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1868, quickly gaining recognition for his work. Throughout his career, Moreau received numerous awards, including medals at the Salon and the Exposition Universelle. His paintings often reflected the opulent and escapist tastes of the Belle Époque, a period characterized by economic prosperity and a flourishing of the arts in France.
