"Bank Swallow. Violet-green Swallow (plate Ccclxxxv) Riparia Riparia. Tachycineta Thalassina" is a work by the renowned American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter John James Audubon, known for his detailed and illustrative bird studies which were compiled in his monumental work, "The Birds of America." This particular plate, numbered CCCXXXV (385), features two species: the Bank Swallow (Riparia riparia), known for its burrowing nesting habits along riverbanks and cliffs, and the Violet-green Swallow (Tachycineta thalassina), distinguished by its vibrant green upperparts and white underparts.
Audubon's "The Birds of America" is a seminal collection of life-sized prints, produced between 1827 and 1838, that remains one of the finest ornithological works ever completed.
