Bogdan Pavlovich Willewalde (Russian: Богдан Павлович Виллевальде; 1818–1903) was a distinguished Russian artist known for his military and historical paintings. As a professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg and an official battle artist for the Russian military, Willewalde made significant contributions to Russian art in the 19th century, particularly in the genre of battle scenes.
Born on January 15, 1818, in Pavlovsk, near Saint Petersburg, Willewalde demonstrated artistic talent from a young age. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts under the tutelage of renowned artists such as Karl Bryullov and Alexander Sauerweid. Willewalde's work was heavily influenced by his academic training and his personal experiences with military life, having served as an officer in the Russian army.
